What Is Microblading And Why Is It So Popular?

What is microblading is such a great question! So let’s get to it! Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that gives the illusion of real hair like strokes. It is a manual hand tool technique where the pigment is inserted into the skin using a very fine blade. The strokes are closer to the outer surface of the skin, making them appear very fine and crisp. This creates a customized look for your face.

Microblading is natural looking regardless of the amount of hair you have. We do not shave off your hair to be clear. We enhance your brows by blending the strokes with your natural hair. It is ideal for you if you are simply unhappy with your eyebrows as well as if you suffer from conditions that cause hair loss.

Is Microblading A Tattoo?

The simple answer, no. Microblading is placed at the bottom of the first layer of the skin so, therefore, is semi-permanent. A tattoo, on the other hand, uses ink that is penetrated into the deepest layer of the skin, making the tattoo last forever. Also, with microblading the pigment used is different and more natural than tattoo inks. Microblading pigment we use does not contain heavy metals nor does it change color such as gray or turquoise as often seen.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading lasts about a year on average – give or take on skin type and lifestyle. I’ve seen best results on normal to drier skin. If you are more of an oily skin type then it may not last a full year. That being said, I still have seen microblading last a year on oily skin.

Microblading is a two-part procedure. There is the first appointment and then a 6 week touch up. The touch up is the perfecting stage to tweak any adjustments wanting to be made as well as a color boost.

How Much Does Microblading Cost?

Microblading cost varies depending on your location, competition, and skill level of the artist etc. It can cost anywhere from $300-$1000, maybe even more in some areas.

At Better Brows we currently charge $350 and this includes your first appointment, as well as your 8 week touch up.

Does Microblading Hurt?

Of course pain level varies per person but on average we have been told on a scale of 1-10 it’s about a 2-3. The feeling is similar to a scratch on the skin. That being said there can be some discomfort but you shouldn’t feel like the pain is unbearable as we do our best to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Another thing to keep in mind is that your skin is always thicker towards the start of the brows and is naturally thinner at the tail of your brows since it’s near your temple.

Is Numbing Used During Microblading?

We do not use numbing cream right off the bat before we begin. This saturates the skin, making it difficult to implant the strokes into the skin. So first we microblade the outline of the brows and then after that, we use a numbing agent on the broken skin (where we made the strokes.) After that, we add more stokes and go over existing strokes to minimize your pain.
